Beat It!

Good morning and happy Tuesday. It's my turn to host the challenge this month over at Country View Crafts, so I've chosen a theme that I love, which is bokeh. This is the Wiki definition

In photography, bokeh is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. Bokeh has been defined as "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light". Wikipedia

Well I'm glad we cleared that up! Here's my first piece.

I made my background piece using a mixture of Distress and Distress Oxides in blues with a little bit of Twisted Citron just because it's my favourite colour at the moment. The twinkly bits are from Brusho 'Sprinkle It's' which are my VERY favourite thing right now. Then I used white gesso and my home made circle stencil to add the bokeh effect.

Then  I chopped a piece out 'cos I decided to make another shaker card, I think I've got that out of my system now for a while thank goodness.

My nephew plays the drums in a band so I used this very old Sheena set in the cut out piece. The embossing has been done with Moon Glow embossing powders. These must be 15 years old if they're a day but they are still going strong!

The stencilling has also been done with a Sheena stencil.

And the Happy birthday sentiment with one of my top three birthday stamps from the man himself.

I'm almost embarrassed to say, but these are the only 2 stamps I've used from the set. But I don't care, it's been worth every penny just for these 2, they are just so usable and stamp perfectly every time. They just work!

I though we were all done, but it did look a bit bare, so I added some musical notes from a die that I've had since time began.

So now we're all done! I think I've used this stamp on his card before, but as there will be hard cash enclosed I'm sure he won't mind ;-).
I hope you enjoy our challenge, and join in with us this month. Just make sure to follow the theme and you could win £20 to spend in the store, and also guest design with us for a month.
Have a very happy October and thanks so much for looking x

  1. Fantastic card, love the colours. You invested a lot of time and thought into it and it shows. Hugs, Valerie

  2. fabulous card - and what a great topic! As for the stamps, mine are not much better!

  3. A fabulous card Sue, the Bokeh technique is not one I have tried myself but it looks great on your card. Confession time, my set of Tim sentiment stamps are exactly like yours, I have only ever used the same two as well.... I must try harder! Anne xx

  4. I love the bokeh technique. You really have it nailed on your card. Must admit that I have sets of stamps too that I only go to one or two of the sentiments. Hugs Mrs A.

  5. Fabulous card with an awesome background!!! I really enjoyed your chosen theme, Sue, it was new to me but I was happy that I learned it!!! Big hugs

  7. I've got a Moon glow EP too! Also very old... You did well on the shaker bit and the Bokeh background is perfect. The birthday boy should be well pleased with that!

  8. Many thanks for the explanation of bokeh.

This is such a great card and perfect for a drummer or someone who plays in a band - I love it!

Happy October wishes … I had a spookily fun time today looking at Halloween 'stuff' with younger family members :)

    All the best Jan

  9. A great card Sue..I love the theme and to do a shaker too was inspired. Happy October xx

  10. What a great bokeh background - you nailed it! Love that the main shaker scene is in a bubble too...

  11. This is a cracking card Sue, you've created a scene that I associate Bokeh with most having many photographer friends they capture this with one press at gigs. The band and the bright lights bring it all together within your shaker card, what a fab theme Sue. You will get around to using the rest of those sentiments they are a great go to set. I bet your Nephew loved this!! Hugs Tracey xx

  12. What a great tute for both bokeh and shaker! Thank you! I actually want to CASE your card, I am afraid of shakers but might could man up to try this tute! xoxo HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

  13. I love this Sue - really so gorgeous! and a shaker too! Brilliant! Hugs rachel x

  14. Beautiful background! I love your idea to cut out a piece for the shaker card!
    Have a wonderful week!
