It's January - But Only Just

The fabulous Darcy has a fun challenge running on her blog to alter a calendar. Each month we have to alter a page but still keep some of the original showing, and this month we also need to use crackling and book pages.
Here's mine

This is how it started out, it's really glossy, so I masked the two butterflies and gave the rest a good coat of gesso.
Added paint and lots of stenciling - I had to stand on a chair under the light to take this one lol.
Crackling - check, though it just looks shiny in the picture it is actually crackly IRL.
Original still showing - check - I used Pebeo making fluid to cover the butterflies and it stood up really well to all the paint then just rubbed off. I'm well pleased with this!
Book Pages - check. Darcy's butterflies are stamped on painted book pages, and so is the sentiment at the top.
I've really enjoyed this, but I must make sure that I've not gunked up February's page as I now need to get started on that.
Hope you like it, and thanks very much for looking x

  6. Never thought of using masking fluid but it would be a clever way to preserve the pic underneath so may just have to grab some next time I venture to a craft/art shop. Love the butterfly page and the gorgeous bright colours.
Happy crafting and thanks for sharing.

  7. I just can get over how "genius" this is, Sue, and you can bet your britches that I am going to try it!! I love how you made this your own creation, yet remained true to the original design. Well done!

  8. Gorgeous layers in the painty background and so clever how you masked the butterflies - a great journey onwards from Darcy's inspiration.

  9. Just wanted to not miss this one Sue and leave you a comment, since your first page of the Calendar challenge by Darcy (would love have joined too, sadly I found no calendar first, and then not enough time to do anything lol) is simply FABULOUS. I love love love and even adore it!!!
And thank you for your last words on my blog too, I have exactly the same problem as you I think.. once I get behind the computer I wander all over the place instead of just getting on with what I need to do haha, that's why sometimes I now become reluctant to open FB!! :( Have a good week, Coco xxx
